Visiting the Dead Sea for free: Finding the entrance to Salt Beach

Wanna go floating in the Dead Sea without having to stay in a resort or paying a public beach entry fee in Jordan? Then Salt Beach is the answer. Just keep in mind that a rental car is to visit it as this is a more ‘wild’ and ‘isolated’ part of the Dead Sea where no buses or probably even taxis will take you.

First a few very useful tips:

If you decide to go to Salt Beach, make sure you take bottles filled with fresh water with you as you will need them to rinse yourself off afterwards. As soon as the salt starts drying out on your skin it becomes very stingy and itchy, remember this is a more isolated beach so you won't find any shower facilities. One of the little luxuries we have to give up in order to get free access to the Dead Sea. Also, water shoes are a must, make sure you have them with you. For more curiosities about the Dead Sea have a look at my full blog post in here.

Now back to the Beach:

Salt Beach is located in the southern part of the Dead Sea on the Dead Sea Road. According to Google Maps Salt beach is here:

But finding the entrance to it was a little more complicated than following our gps!

If you are driving northbound on the Dead Sea Road, after soaking in the amazing views of this natural wonder, start looking for these two huge ‘no idea what to call them :P’ on the left-hand side of the road looking out at the Dead Sea.

Take the graveled road as far down as it goes and park your rental car in a good spot. We had a 4x4 rental car but it is really not needed, just drive slower and you will be fine.

Once you found a good spot for the car, start walking down toward the Dead Sea and find yourself a good spot. We were at the Beach for just over an hour and were the only ones in there! Relax, take some amazing pictures with the salt formations and enjoy floating!
